BREAKING NEWS: After thirty years, Tasmania’s wild valleys are now your World Heritage. Today in Cambodia, the World Heritage Committee declared the tall eucalypt forests of the Tasmania’s southern forests and Great Western Tiers as World Heritage – the highest global recognition for environmental values. This extension to the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area is a spectacular and globally significant conservation outcome, and the first permanent forest protection resulting from the historic Tasmanian Forest Agreement. Thousands of people have worked to achieve this World Heritage protection over thirty years, campaigning for the wild forests of the Picton, Styx, Weld, and Florentine Valleys, Butlers Gorge, and the Great Western Tiers. This is a victory for the communities and people who have cared and fought for these forests. This is your victory.
