BREAKING NEWS: DID BUHARI SUE FANI-KAYODE FOR DEFAMATION ON ACCOUNT OF ACCUSATIONS THAT THE FORMER FORGED HIS CERTIFICATE? It has been reported at least on one online news portal, News Punch, (not sure if it is related to the Punch Newspaper) that General Buhari has sued Fani-Kayode for slander for accusing Buhari of forging his certificate. If true, this is significant escalation in what has been a great tragicomedy that has characterised the Nigerian politicking in the past one month. What does this mean for Buhari? It shows he is confident of his facts and would even like them further vetted in court of law. It also means that Buhari is not afraid of public scrutiny. But assuming he wins the election, will he be attending court for the trial while occupying the office of the President? What does it mean for Fani-Kayode? It means big trouble for him. He really has to realise there are consequences for his actions and utterances. Assuming Buhari gets judgement against him, where will he find the money to pay for damages? What does this mean for PDP and President Jonathan? It really suggest that the choice of a person like Fani-Kayode as the head of the media for the ruling partys campaign was ill-advised. The man is already embattled even before he could deliver. The lawsuit is a tactical move to force Fani-Kayode to think twice before speaking, as he is now under the purview of the court.
