BREAKING NEWS.................... FORMER SUPERVISOR OF ELECTIONS APPOINTED SUPERINTENDENT OF POLICE ================================= The controversial Former Supervisor of Election Pastor Leroy Benjamin has been appointed a Superintendent of the Royal St.Christopher and Nevis Police Force. Benjamin served as Supervisor of Election for close to ten years and his tenure was easily the most controversial and tumultuous of any Supervisor in the history of General Elections in the federation. Benjamin resigned his post as Supervisor of Elections in 2012 just a few weeks after the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court (ECSC) condemned his actions – and those of one of his officers – in the conduct of the July 2011 Local elections held in Nevis. The Justices of Appeal reiterated sentiments expressed by Justice Lionel Jones at the Nevis High Court and further indicated that Benjamin acted deliberately in not properly carrying out his duties according to law and acted with bias. In 2009 calls were made for his resignation as Prison Chaplain while his son William Benjamin was on Trial for the Murder of Michele Benjamin-Weekes. Young Benjamin was eventually found guilty of the brutal murder of his former Sister-In-Law. We will have more information on this development as they become available....................
