BREAKING NEWS: HUB CITY ROOM- This afternoon alice24-7 columnist Ron Burke talked with Dorella Elizondo, board president of the Alice Counseling Center regarding the investigation the center is currently involved with.Burke wanted to give the board president (on behalf of the ACC) a fair opportunity to present additional information and clarification on these important issues. Mrs. Elizondo explained that there are basically several separate and independent phases of the investigation proceeding.On Monday, May 5, the Dept. of Health Services will be conducting an administrative hearing to determine the validity of the findings (allegations) that were contained in a letter received by the board president late last week, and if such charges would be classified as either civil or criminal complaints Potentially they could also be referred to another agency for further possible action if advisable. By May 8 the centers board will be submitting to the state a plan of corrective action in response to any deficiencies in standards or procedures that were found. At some point the state will consider what penalties, if any,might be accessed on the center. There is presently an internal audit underway at the center, and then an external one is expected to be completed by an area CPA. Mrs. Elizondo explained that following the state hearing more information can be released and that once the audits are completed, financial information would be available. She indicated that a big priority for her and the board is to be able to maintain and continue the services provided to clients by the Alice Counseling Center. She stated that she hopes the public will understand how these processes must run their course towards a final outcome.
