BREAKING NEWS How and Why DSA Cancelled the forthcoming SUG Night Party. BY: Exks Wai-Zee ................................................................ Members of the Student Representative Council SRC were welcomed with a rude shock yesterday evening when they were informed about the immidiate cancellation of the ultimate day of the SUG week: the SUG Night Party which will now hold only during the daytime from 10am to 6pm. The meeting between the legislative arm of the Union and the polytechnic representatives was presided over by the Dean of Student Affairs: Engr Akintade, the Sub-Dean: Mr Omowunmi and the Student Affairs Officer: Pastor Adeyemi around 4pm yesterday 11th of September 2014. It was however gathered from reliable sources that the SRC was angered by the approach of the DSA owing to the fact that the decision had been made and agreed upon before it was brought to the house. This was interpreted by some honourables as a disregard for the right of the student parliament entrusted with the making of decisions and law on issues that affect the governmnent. A menber of the SRC in HNDII Noted further that the idea ought to be presented for consideration and approval and not merely to inform them. Our correspondent also gatherede that , Engr Akintade however pointed that the decision to pull down the night jamz and move it to the daytime was due to the rise in cultism and criminal activities around the community and that the safety and welfare of the students would be put in danger if the night party is allowed to continue as several cases of rape, theft, kidnapping and cult clashes have been reported during previous night events on campus. Meanwhile, some members of the SRC believes if the polytechnic makes adequate provision for stiff security, and ensure non-students are not permitted to enter the campus for the show, the level of detrimental activities can be appropriately curtailled. But this suggesst and every other alternatives given to ensure the party still hold at night were not welcomed as it was obvious the idea had been stamped by some higher authorities already and whatever opinion the SRC presented will always meet a stiff rejection. ............................................................
