BREAKING NEWS: My religious belief forbids it; PDP candidate rejects victory in Offa re-run; says APC candidate won. In Offa local government area of Kwara state where the ripples are still being felt following last Saturday’s local government re-run poll, a strange occurrence took place on Wednesday. The Kwara State Independent Electoral Commission (KWASIEC) had declared controversially that the PDP swept the chairmanship as well as the 12 councillorship polls. This reportedly ran contrary to signed sheets at the wards which showed that the APC won in 11 out of 12 wards. Also, the fact that the INEC commissioner in the state left for Ilorin to announce the result and did so via the state-owned radio channel raised some dust. In an unprecedented briefing on Wednesday, a councillorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in Shawo South West ward in Offa Local Government of Kwara State, Afolabi Olawole, declared that contrary to the KWASIEC announcement which gave him victory, he knew that he was not the rightful winner.
