BREAKING NEWS: Pedestrian dies, Saturday A pedestraian who had been struck on Kaumualii Highway just east of the Kaumakani Post Office was pronounced dead after being transported to the G. N. Wilcox Memorial Hospital, Saturday night. Police dispatch received a call at 9:33 p.m. Saturday reporting the incident where an eastbound sedan struck the pedestrian. According to a county release, while responding to the scene, an officer in a police vehicle traveling eastbound apparently struck the victim a second time. The victim was transported to Wilcox Hospital where he was pronounced dead. No other injuries from the incident were reported. Kauai Police Dept. closed Kaumualii Highway at 9:45 p.m. for approximately five hours to investigate the traffic accident. The highway was re-opened at approximately 4 a.m. following the on-scene investigation. The victims identity has not been confirmed. An autoposy is scheduled for Monday, states the release. The officer involved in the incident has been placed on administrative leave pending the investigation, in accordance with departmental protocol.
