BREAKING NEWS: Spike TV has canceled TNA Impact Wrestling. Its about damn time this happened. Let me drop a verbal pipe bomb about TNA. It was never a rival for WWE. As bad as some WWE stories got, TNA never caught most of the fans interest. There was always a 2 million viewer gap between TNA & WWE. The problem was identity. At least the old World Championship Wrestling had three things going for it. First, it had Ted Turner. Second, it had a uniquely southern wrestling influence with Ric Flair. It had an extremely loyal fan base. TNA never had anything except for being the WWE rejects promotion. There was never anything that largely stood out. Some will say the Knockouts or even the X-Division. To me it was a pale imitation of the old W.C.W. promotion. As Paul Heyman said, it will be almost impossible to beat WWE because of distribution. Hes half right. What I think needs to happen to a potential WWE challenger? A greater sense of storyline & an easier distribution channels. Instead of cheezy in locker room/backstage stories, a rival needs to develop stories like a drama TV show. Im thinking House of Cards meets WWE. It has to be HBO quality drama meets Attitude/2014 level wrestling. As for distribution, Google & YouTube could solve that. Imagine a global wrestling show thats broadcasted online to get the scope of the BBCs Doctor Who: The Day of the Doctor. Along with a tour & greater accessibility to the fans. It is so ambitious & tough that I dont know who could pull it off. Vince McMahon wins again. Hes got a streak that rivals the Undertaker. It will be a long time before we see a WWE vs WCW clash of promotions. As for TNA, I wont miss it. It was mediocre at best. My hope is that Ring of Honor gets a genius millionaire & a TV or online show that airs every Monday night.
