*BREAKING NEWS* The University will be partnering with global technology giant Hewlett Packard (HP), in a major 3-year project to explore the development of sustainable next-generation cities and communities. Using HP technology such as smart meters, smart grid technologies, ultra-low-power wireless sensors, cyber security and resource management software - and experience gained from HPs own research at HP Labs in Palo Alto, California - an experimental testbed will be established at the University. Research will determine the best set-up to support the radical changes needed to significantly reduce fossil fuel consumption. The project will also lead to a permanent research environments being established at the University for the development of next-generation digital economy products and services.
