BREAKING NEWS: Police Release Name of Woman Shot and Killed by OCPD Officer exploreVenango July 17, 2013 Photo by Matt Croyle. OIL CITY, Pa. - State Police have released the name of a woman who was shot and killed by an Oil City Police officer on Tuesday evening. According to a published report in the Tribune Review, Oil City Police officers were dispatched around 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday to a location in the 400 block of Central Avenue. Preliminary reports indicate that an officer was approached by 68-year-old woman with a knife. The woman was subsequently shot and killed by the officer. State Police have identified the woman as Marilyn Elizabeth Peterson of Oil City. WPXI is reporting that the officers unsuccessfully attempted to subdue the woman with a baton prior to shooting her. The officers were not equipped with tasers. An autopsy is scheduled for today. Calls to Venango County Coroner Tyler Best have not yet been returned. Police have not released the name of the officer who shot Ms. Peterson. Pennsylvania State Police Troop E is investigating the shooting.
