BREAKING: This Massive Victory Was Just Won by Pastors Who Defied Liberal Mayor This is huge news and a great victory for religious liberty. After weeks of pressure by numerous people and organizations, like Conservative Tribune, who care about religious liberty, Houston Mayor Annise Parker has backed down from her insane demands and withdrawn the subpoenas against the Houston pastors who criticized her administration and her bathroom ordinance. Parker announced this new development at a news conference today. Click here to get a FREE subscription to the Conservative Tribune. The Houston Chronicle reported, “Parker said two meetings yesterday, one with local pastors and another with national clergy, persuaded her to pull the subpoenas altogether. “The goal of the subpoenas is to defend against the lawsuit and not to provoke a public debate,” Parker said.” The subpoenas prompted a fury of protest and controversy nationally. Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee took action, telling his show viewers, “And so I got an idea. If she wants a sermon, here is my suggestion. I would like to ask every pastor in America, not only the ones in Houston, to send her your sermons and go ahead. Obviously she could use a few. And everybody watching the show ought to send her a Bible.” The Alliance Defending Freedom provided legal support and advice for the pastors. Phil Robertson and Rush Limbaugh spoke out on their behalf. There was a rally planned in support of the pastors for this coming Sunday, Nov. 2nd. Participants were slated to include the President of the Southern Baptist Convention, Robertson, and many Houston area pastors and other Christian and conservative leaders. According to the rally’s website, “Hosted by Family Research Council and other partners, speakers from across the nation will gather at Grace Community Church in Houston, Texas to focus on the freedom to live out our faith free of government intrusion or monitoring. We will stand with pastors and churches in Houston, Texas who have been unduly intimidated by the city’s Mayor in demanding they hand over private church communication.” Thankfully, they have already won this battle. This is wonderful news of how public officials will often change course and do the right thing if they receive enough public pressure. Please share to spread this if you support the preachers.
