BREEDER WISDOM - MORE food for thought. From an article called The Generic Notion Dr. Gareth Morgan-Jones poses the following interesting questions: When someone speculates about a supposed trend in breeding generic show dogs, as I read about recently in a certain editorial page, notice has to be taken and the following questions have to be asked: How widespread is this practice, if it exists at all, and to what degree is breed integrity being thereby compromised? Are so-called incorrect dogs becoming more and more prevalent and how are judges meeting the challenge of dealing with them? Is it indeed true to say that fanciers are deliberately selecting for certain traits that are thought to e advantageous in terms of increased competitiveness at the expense of maintaining proper breed distinctions? Would love to hear from others as to their answers to this and the consequences that would follow........
