BREEDING A GENERATION OF DEAF PEOPLE: Is Nigeria breeding a generation of deaf people? Sounds so strange though. The rate at which this generation of Nigerians (young and old alike) is crazy about the use of earphone on mobile handsets is alarming and if not checked we might be breeding a generation that might soon go deaf in the nearest future. These days, you can hardly see anybody not using earphones either to make call or listen to music on their cellphones. I discovered that people especially Abuja residents are in the habit of using earphones even while driving and not minding the risk involved. Handsfree devices are there to be used to receive calls while driving, but people dont care about that. It is noted that 3 out every 5 people on the street are always putting on earphones either to listen to music or make calls. It has even become part of individual dressing lately. If this ugly trend is not addressed by the appropriate authorities, Im afraid we might be breeding a generation of people that might go deaf soonest. This is because the effect of these gadgets on the eardrums im sure is not good for it. Please folks reduce the use of earphones to the barest minimum.
