BREEDING THE ECLECTUS It has been said that Eclectus parrots are the "easiest to breed and the hardest to feed," and there is some truth in that old adage. Once a pair starts producing fertile eggs and hatching their babies, the biggest problem is forcing them to take a break. The description of "hardest to feed" refers to the limited feeding response of the babies. Parrot breeders who are accustomed to feeding Macaw babies that pump so hard that they could swallow the syringe, usually are shocked to discover that Eclectus babies sometimes just sit there like a lump, with very little if any pumping action. If the baby is hungry, it will swallow the food and if not, the formula will simply drool down its chest.
