BRIAN GALLANT: Today in St. George we announced that a Liberal Government would better protect the environment and health of New Brunswickers; we’ll maintain and create jobs in an sustainable way while protecting the environment for future generations. In response to increasing cases of extreme weather in New Brunswick, including the major flood’s in 2010 and 2012, 2013’s ice storm, and 2014’s post-tropical storm Arthur, a Liberal Government would ensure the province is better prepared through more tree trimming, better public communications during the weather events, and post-event reviews to ensure ongoing improvement. A Liberal government would also undertake two measures to significantly improve the independence and effectiveness of environmental oversight: -Ensuring the independence of the medical officers of health; and -Centralizing all conservation, inspection and enforcement functions in one government department. Un gouvernement libéral mettra également en place deux initiatives afin daméliorer grandement l’indépendance et l’efficacité de la surveillance environnementale : -Garantir l’indépendance des médecins-hygiénistes; -Centraliser tous les services de conservation, d’inspection et dapplication de la loi au sein dun seul ministère.
