BRIEFING: Govt, Press Council Disagree on Draft Media Law The Ministry of Information and Burma’s interim Press Council are at loggerheads over the council’s proposed draft media law, Democratic Voice of Burma reports. During two recent meetings, the council and ministry disagreed over the bill’s content as government officials opposed numerous articles set out in the draft. “The [ministry] told us to amend 17 articles in the bill, including the one that states that the Press Council would be the only press body in the country. They want a lot of councils and we wouldn’t accept that,” said Kyaw Min Swe, The Voice Weekly’s chief editor and Press Council secretary.
