BRINGING AWARENESS TO AN ANIMAL SHELTER IN STOVER, MO-CALLING ALL RESCUES. SOME GREAT DOGS NEED YOUR HELP. I apologize up front for the long post BUT PLEASE DONT STOP READING. I have decided to try my hardest to help a rural shelter in Stover MO that I drive by every weekend that is 2 hours away from my house in Kansas City Missouri. For years I kept myself from going inside this shelter which sits right on busy highway 52, but now that I have seen the shelter I cant turn away. I know shelters all over have dogs that need help, including the KCMO shelter a few miles from my house. The difference is, hardly anyone is helping the animals at this shelter. The animals live in filth, have hardly any enrichment and would be better off dead then living the way that they do. Something needs to be done to help these dogs and I feel that there are a lot of highly adoptable dogs that could be adopted into loving homes if you only knew about them. My goal is to make sure that you know about them and beg you to help me find foster homes for them. The Stover animal shelter is a very very sad environment and the dogs need our help. The shelter is run by a very sweet and sharp 75 year old volunteer named Carol. The saddest part for me was seeing all of the dogs that live inside in the basement. I attached a few pictures of the inside so that you can see what I am talking about. The floor is concrete and there are chain link fences lining two walls as well as a room with shorelines that I did not go in. The dogs go out once in the morning so that they can clean their floors which have no blankets or beds to raise the dogs off of the floor in which they urinate and defecate on. It was so loud in this room in the basement that you could not even talk to the person standing next to you. All day and night the dogs sit on the concrete floors and sleep next to or in their urine and poop and listen to barking dogs. The cats are right next door which Im sure is total hell for the cats. I went to the shelter on Saturday 8/30 to look at Two Boston Terrier mixes for a Boston Terrier rescue and I left there on Monday with two Pyrenees\Lab mix pups that are 7 months old that were sitting in a corner peeing all over themselves when we would look at them. Each dog was covered head to toe in feces and urine. The four dogs at the shelter that are in the worse shape are all safe. I AM BEGGING. PLEASE LOOK AT THE PICTURES, PLEASE GO TO THEIR PETFINDER PAGE AND PLEASE EMAIL ME A LIST OF QUESTIONS IF YOU CAN CONSIDER ANY OF THESE DOGS. I WILL GO BACK AND TAKE MORE PICTURES, SPEND MORE TIME WITH THEM OR EMAIL CAROL QUESTIONS. CAROL IS WONDERFUL TO WORK WITH AND SHE IS SO INCREDIBLY GRATEFUL. CAROL HAS EVERYONE ALTERED, GIVEN A RABIES, A HEARTWORM TEST AND A 5 WAY. SHE HAS TO CHARGE A PULL FEE OF $70 FOR MALES AND $75 FOR FEMALES THAT ARE FULLY VETTED. The outside dogs have shelter and dog houses and big areas to walk around in but that is their existence. All of the dogs are in with other dogs. The inside dogs are also kenneled with other dogs but their existence is worse. It is so loud and stressful in that basement you cant hear yourself think. Some of the kennel help that Carol has picks the dogs up by their scruffs and it terrifies them even more. They have urine stains on their fur and their coats are sticky with urine and feces. **** DOGS THAT HAVE BEEN AT THE SHELTER THE LONGEST*** TWO SWEET DOGS HAVE BEEN AT THE SHELTER SINCE AUGUST 2012-THEIR PULL FEE IS PAID FOR The two dogs that have been there the longest are sisters Lady and Sheena. They were found tied to the shelter steps in August of 2012. They are both very sweet and social girls. They are currently living in outdoor pens with hardly any enrichment and only listen to and watch dogs bark all day and cars drive by. A woman in Stover has offered to pay the pull fees for Sheena and Lady since they are the two dogs that have been at the shelter the longest. Weight about 20 lbs Blackie-Beagle/Dachshund mix(overweight)-attached pictures-black and tan and white Per Petfinder........October 26, 2013 Blackie is abut a year old, owners rent on a busy highway and are afraid they will get run over as yard is not fenced. Weight about `18 lbs.(has gained weight) These are just a few. I cant put them all in this post but the shelter has a Petfinder page ................................... petfinder/shelters/stoveranimalcontrol.html (some bios may be outdated) There are lots of little dogs and medium sized dogs as well as big dogs. If you are a rescue that has room for certain sized dogs let me know and I will just send you an email with the dogs that you might have room for. Or look at their Petfinder page and shoot me questions regarding any particular dog. petfinder/shelters/stoveranimalcontrol.html (some bios may be outdated) The Stover MO shelter has Chihuahuas, and lots of mix breeds that are small, medium and large. Most of the dogs look like Hound, Beagle, Dachshund or Terrier mixes. Luckily there was only one bully breed that I saw. The big dogs are Shepherd, Hound or Lab mixes and a couple Bassadors. Thank you for reading. Any help is much appreciated.
