BRIPAN recently received the status of Observer from United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) WORKING Group V on Insolvency working on a Model Insolvency Law and is also engaging UNCITRAL in terms of cooperation/technical assistance in the exposure of the draft bill. The session also witnessed the participation of representatives of the Federal Government, particularly, representatives from the Federal Ministry of Justice, CBN and SEC in New York between the 30 April and 4 May, 2012 and another meeting at Vienna from 26- 30 November, 2012. One of the outcomes of the UNCITRAL WORKING GROUP V’s session is that there should be a convergence of efforts from the private and public sector, a strategic alliance to realize the legislative agenda to update our insolvency laws and to empower an effective Nigerian delegation that would make more impact at UNCITRAL.
