BROAD DEFINITIONS: TEA PARTY This is a new brief series of blog posts of me defining the core tenants of certain political ideologies or beliefs. I will debut it on a weekly basis on Mondays. As most of you know, I believe that a Party or Party Caucus is a broad umbrella of key core tenants. If you follow those tenants 100%, you can consider yourself a Member of their Group. Lets start with the Tea Party. TEA PARTY TENANTS: 1. Reduce Government Spending. 2. A Flat or Low Tax System. 3. Audit the Federal Governments Agencies. 4. Lower the National Debt and Deficit. 5. Limit Per Annum Growth Spending to Inflation X Population Growth (in percent). 6. Opposes TARP. 7. Opposes Federal Stimulus. 8. Opposes Cap-And-Trade Legislation. 9. Opposes PPACA (“Obamacare”). 10. Opposes Amnesty for Illegal Immigrants. 11. Protect Amendments I, II, IV, and X. 12. Supports Right To Work Legislation. 13. Supports Tighter Border Security. 14. Opposes Agenda 21. 15. Supports the Partial or Full Repeal of Amendments XIV, XVI, and XVII 16. Supports the Adoption of a Repeal Amendment, which would allow two-thirds of the States to repeal Federal Laws. 17. Supports the Adoption of a Balanced Budget Amendment, with a two-thirds vote required to make changes in the tax code. 18. Supports Identifying the Constitutionality of New Legislation. 19. Supports a Moratorium on Earmarks Until a Balanced Budget, and Afterwards a two-thirds Majority to Approve Earmarks. Now here are my notes on how I remain a Tea Partier while simultaneously not agreeing with some of the tenants. For example, Article 9 states to repeal PPACA. I am for a repeal with a replacement. Preferably I would like to see a voucher program to solve the uninsured. I dont want to see a single-payer option. For Article 10, I do not consider a path to citizenship “amnesty” if the illegal immigrant is being punished for the misdemeanor with a fine before they can be accepted. No blanket amnesty, there needs to be consequences, but eventually give them a way in for legal RESIDENCY, not citizenship. In Article 15, I support the amending of Amendment XIV to deny individuals who illegally come to the United States to receive the benefits. I would NOT state in the amendment I would propose that the requisite needs to include one American parent, but that it must include one parent that is legal to reside in the United States. In Article 15, I would amend Amendment XVI so that way the income tax must be flattened, and Amendment XVII to allow the State Legislatures to recall their Senators and create new Special Elections. Article 17, I would love to see, but also recognize its unrealism. But I would support it and propose it. So in essence, though I consider myself a “Progressive Conservative” and a “Moderate Republican” (both will appear in the next few articles), I call myself a proud Tea Party Patriot. I know the contradiction. A Progressive Conservative, Moderate Republican, Proud Tea Party Member. But its true, I am.
