BROKEN COVENANTS PRODUCE NOTHING BUT TROUBLE October 23, 2014 Exodus 19:3–6; Leviticus 26:14–20 Key Verse: Exodus 19:5 If you will indeed obey My voice and keep My covenant, then you shall be a special treasure to Me above all people; for all the earth is Mine. Why do we have so much trouble in the family? The answer is deceptively simple: we break covenant with God and one another more often in the family than anywhere else! We shoot ourselves in the foot when we continually break covenant with God and one another. For example, covenant breaking robs us of the ability to generate and sustain the wealth and riches God ordained for us. We break our covenant responsibilities as mothers, fathers, and spouses by shirking our duties to provide for the family. Instead of accepting and fulfilling our responsibilities through hard work and faith in God, we say “Amen” to the social gospel preachers who say the government “owes us” everything we need. My Bible says, “The government will be upon His shoulder” (Isa. 9:6 nkjv, emphasis mine). It also says, “My God”—not “my government”—“shall supply all your needs” (Phil. 4:19 nkjv, emphasis mine). As soon as we accept responsibility for where we are and move back into covenant with God, the family will begin to mend. The church will begin to grow and flourish. The city will begin to rise from the ashes of ruin. The nation will rise up in new righteousness, blessing, and prosperity. First we must stop using worldly rules and principles to accomplish heavenly tasks. There is only one way to govern your house and raise your children, and that is God’s way. The kingdom of God covers your house too. PRAYER Holy Father, please forgive me for all the times and ways I have broken covenant in my home. I am returning to the basics of kingdom life; Your Word replaces the advice and patterns of men in my finances, marriage, personal conduct, and the way I raise my children. In Jesus’ name, we will honor our covenant with You, Father, and with one another.
