In a statement signed by her Press Secretary Aisha M. Hassan, the Wife of the Governor congratulated the new NCWS officials on their election. She said the election of Hajiya Yagana Alkali Kachalla as President was an attestation of her leadership qualities and commitment to propel Borno Women to greater height and urged all stakeholders to support the new executive members to enable them impact positively on women in the state. VISIT The Senior Special Adviser on Persons with Disabilities to Governor, Mai Bukar Abatcha has paid a sympathy visit to victims of last Tuesday’s bomb explosion at Mohammed Shuwa General Hospital Maiduguri. Mai Bukar Abatcha who is also the Emir of the blind was accompanied on the visit by Waziri of the blind Alhaji Bukar Gambo and other community members. The report is presented by Baba Gana Bukar. On arrival, the Senior Special Adviser was received and conducted round by the senior nurse on duty. She said most of the explosion victims have been discharged and those on admission are responding treatment. She told the Senior Special Adviser that with the directive of the Governor the hospital stood firmly towards ensuring better treatment for the victims and thanked the Special Adviser for his concern to the victims. Earlier the Senior Special Adviser on Persons with Disabilities, Mai Bukar Abatcha said he received the news of the bomb blast with deep shock and prayed Allah to forestall future occurrence. The Senior Special Adviser commended Governor Kashim Shettima for shouldering their medical expenses. He also commended the hospital staff for their concern and hard work towards ensuring better treatment for the victims. The Senior Special Adviser and his entourage offered prayer for quick recovery of those injured and eternal rest for those who lost their lives in the bomb explosion. COURT The Maiduguri High Court of Justice has awarded two point two million naira as funeral expenses and general damage to Alhaji Hassan Tambulwa to be paid by Iliyasu idris for causing the death of his son in a motor accident along Maiduguri-Damatru road in August 2011. The plaintiff has on sixteenth October two thousand and twelve filed a suit against the defendants Iliyasu Idris and Dr. Yunus El-Harun demanding two hundred thousand naira as funeral expenses incurred for the burial of his son. The plaintiff is also claiming from the defendants and jointly and severally the sum of twenty million naira as general damage and fourteen million naira as special damages being suffered as a result of the death of Ibrahim Hassan caused by negligence of the first defendant in the course of his duty as a servant or agent of the second defendant. The first defendant was on the fateful day driving a truck vehicle with registration number Borno XA 391 KBG along Maiduguri-Damaturu road while Ibrahim Hassan was aboard golf model car as a passenger with registration number AE 774 DTR heading to Maiduguri. Delivering judgment after listening to the two parties, the presiding judge justice Usman Bwala said it was not disputable that vehicles with registration numbers Borno XA 391 KBG and Yobe AE 774 DTR were involved in an accident on or about 16th August 2011 around Beneshiekh town along Maiduguri-Damaturu highway. As a result of the accident, all occupants of the vehicle AE 774 DTR died including Ibrahim Hassan. The claim against the first defendant was that he was the person driving or in control of vehicle with registration number Borno XA 391 KBG which was responsible for causing the accident leading to the death of Ibrahim Hassan. According to evidence before the court, Justice Usman Bwala said the first defendant drove at a speed which was excessive in the circumstance as he drifted into the lane the deceased vehicle was on the road lost control. The first defendant failed to keep any proper look or to have any sufficient regard for traffic that was or might be expected on the said road consequently causing the said vehicle to collide with the vehicle in which the deceased was travelling. Justice Usman Bwala however dismissed any claim against the second defendant and awarded the claimant the total sum of two million, two hundred thousand naira as funeral expenses and general damage. KAGA The State Government is to rebuild houses and public structures destroyed during insurgency attack in Benesheik last year. Governor Kashim Shettima made this known yesterday while addressing the people in Beneshiek, the headquarters of Kaga local government. Hundreds of people turned out to welcome the Governor and his entourage which include the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs Baba Kaka Bashir Garbai. While appealing to the Kaga community not to relent in praying for lasting peace, Governor Kashim Shettima said one hundred million naira has been set aside for the local government for the purpose of reconstructing houses destroyed during the unfortunate attack. The Governor also presented two million naira to be shared among women, elders and the civilian JTF. In their separate remarks the Secretary of the Council, Alhaji Musa Konto and the immediate past Caretaker Chairman, Alhaji Bunu Kaigama thanked the Governor for showing much concern to the plight of victims of the insurgency and assured that the people will solidly support him for a second mandate come 2015. CONDOLENCE The Student Union Government University of Maiduguri has condoled the families of Fasuma Ndatira Mbaya who was killed in last Tuesday’s bomb blast in Maiduguri. A statement issued by the Union’s Youth Leader M. B. Bolori urged the families of the late student to bear the loss with fortitude and prayed for the peaceful soul of the late student. The statement praised the contributions of late Fasuma to the development of unionism in the University. Fasuma Mbaya was a three hundred level of Physics department of University of Maiduguri.
