BRTV NEWS: posted by arewa 1ST SEPT, 2013: MICRO FINANCE BANK: HAJIYA ZAINAB UMAR KOLO The Caretaker Chairman Mafa Local Government, Alhaji Abubakar Umara Zulum has commended the introduction of Micro Finance free grant to rural women in the state. The Chairman made his feelings known when he received the Managing Director and Chief executive of the Micro Finance Bank, Hajiya Zainab Umar Kolo at the Local Government Secretariat. The Caretaker Chairman said the Local Government has the largest population of women in Central Borno, who should be empowered through such scheme. He commended the Special Adviser to the Governor on Special Projects, Hajiya Zainab Umar Kolo for her concern towards the people of Mafa. The Chairman informed the Managing Director that Mafa Local Government has twelve wards and assured her that all the forms allocated will be distributed to target beneficiaries. The Caretaker Chairman thanked Governor Kashim Shettima, the Micro Finance Bank and the Dangote Foundation for coming up with the scheme towards reducing poverty. Presenting the forms to the Chairman, the Managing Director Hajiya Zainab Umar Kolo said the forms for the grant should be distributed to women, widows and vulnerable members of the society as well as the civilian JTF. Addressing women at the Mafa Secretariat Hajiya Zainab Umar advised them to fill the forms correctly and should attach three photographs. Hajiya Zainab Umar said the Micro Finance Bank is in collaboration with Borno State Government and Dangote Foundation geared towards eradicating poverty among women and youths. She informed the women that the Bank will provide them with the grant after submission of the forms and advised prospective beneficiaries to use the money wisely. Climax of the occasion was presentation of the forms to some women groups. TRAINING: A three month intensive Training programme organized by the Ministry of Poverty Alleviation and Youth Empowerment in collaboration with Industrial Training Fund (ITF) has been flagged off in Maiduguri. The programme is taking place at the NYSC orientation camp. Speaking on the occasion, Governor Kashim Shettima expressed gratitude to the ITF for organizing the training programme in the State. Represented by his Deputy, Alhaji Zannah Umar Mustapha, the Governor said the State Government is organizing a similar programme for the training of youths which will take off soon and will last twenty one days for each batch. He said during the training, the trainees will be provided with free feeding in addition to the provision of sporting facilities. Governor Kashim Shettima said Government will look into the possibility of employing them at the end of the training adding that it is anticipated that eighteen thousand youths will be trained in one year. The Commissioner for Poverty Alleviation and Youth Empowerment Dr. Zainab Gimba Kyari said youth empowerment through training in skills acquisition is one of the potent tools in mitigating the plight of unemployed people in the society by creating windows of economic opportunities. She advised the trainees to take their training very seriously as their dream of achieving success in their chosen trade is dependent on how faithful and dedicated they were during their apprenticeship. The Director General and Chief Executive of Industrial Training Fund, Professor Longmas Sambo Wapmuk said in the second phase of the programme, Borno State will benefit in three areas of Welding and Fabrication, Furniture making/Wood work, Tailoring and Garment making. Represented by the Director Business and Training Development, Mallam Gambo Abdu Ganga, the Director General said it is expected that majority of the trainees will start their own business upon graduation, while some will be employed in various sectors of the economy. Highlight of the programme was a march pass by the trainees and inspection of exhibition by the Deputy Governor, Alhaji Zannah Umar Mustapha and other dignitaries. NGOZA: A. U. Ngoza Travels and Tours Limited says it will commence payment of refunds to its customers who could not be airlifted to Saudi Arabia for the lesser hajj. The Managing Director Alhaji Usman Njiga in a statement advised affected customers to report to the Head office of Agency along Lagos Street on Wednesday, the fourth of this month for their refund and collection of their passports. The Agency also regretted any inconveniences the flight cancellation might have caused to its numerous customers which was brought about by Visa restriction by the Saudi Authorities. INSPECTION: The state government is to construct Four Hundred Housing Units along Gubio road within the state capital. The Housing Estate is part of the two thousand five hundred houses earmarked to be constructed by the Kashim Shettima administration. Inspecting the site for the construction of Four Hundred Housing Estate along Gubio road the State Commissioner Ministry of Housing and Rural Electrification Alhaji Sugun Mai Mele said provision of shelter is one of the cardinal objectives of the present administration. The Commissioner who is also the Vice Chairman of the high powered committee on the construction of two thousand five hundred housing estate expressed satisfaction with the phase of work at the Shettima Ali Monguno Three Hundred Housing Estate. Alhaji Sugun Mai Mele charged the Engineers to ensure strict supervision of the project to ensure that standard is maintained. He assured that the Committee would not relent in its efforts towards the completion of the project and called on the contractors to live up to expectation. The Commissioner commended Governor Kashim Shettima for according priority to provision of shelter to the people. Also speaking Chairman of one of the sub-committees, Engineer Abdullahi Musa Askira pledged commitment of the Engineers towards ensuring close supervision to maintain quality. The Commissioner was accompanied on the visit by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Housing Alhaji Ajiya Terab, and that of Water Resources, Engineer Baba Sanda and other members of the committee. FORUM: Ministry of Trade Investment and Tourism A one-day business investment forum between representatives of the business community and other key sectors of the state and a trade delegation from Pakistan has ended in Maiduguri. Organized by the state Ministry of Trade Investment and Tourism the Forum took place at the Banquet hall of the state hotels. The major aim of organizing the business investment forum was to give an opportunity to the two parties to explore potential areas of investment and cooperation between them. In her address of welcome, the State Commissioner for Trade Investment and Tourism, Dr. Asabe Vilita Bashir described the forum as historic designed to highlight investment opportunities that abound in the state. The Commissioner stated that the Kashim Shettima administration places great premium in attracting foreign investment to the state and has put in place package of incentives to make it easier for investors to invest in the state. These according to the Commissioner include speedy access to industrial plots and titles and tax holiday for certain critical industries. The Secretary of the Borno State Chamber of Commerce, Mines, Industries and Agriculture, (BOCIMA) Mohammed Baba Bunu stated that Borno state has comparative advantage in the establishment of industries as it borders three African countries with abundant agricultural and mineral resources. Also speaking at the forum, the Nigerian High Commissioner to Pakistan Ambassador Dauda Danladi disclosed that one member of the trade delegation has pledged to invest one million Euro to establish a cottage industry in the state. Leader of the Pakistani Trade Delegation in his remark said his country is ready to partner with the state in the area of education by bringing in teachers to teach in schools in the state and also establish new schools. As part of the business investment forum the state and the Pakistan delegations were divided into six committee areas of education and sports, health, agriculture, home appliances, textiles, leather and tannery during which they discussed and agreed upon potential areas of cooperation. The Pakistani Trade delegation also visited some selected industries in the state capital and pledged to enter into partnership with the state government to resuscitate the industries. A communiqué was also issued at the end of the business investment forum. TURBANNING: A new Ibrahim Wadaima and District Head of Damboa has been turbaned. Aged fifty three, Alhaji Abba Masta Abba Yusuf inherited his brother who held the same title and position and was assassinated about six month ago in the height of insurgency in the state. Hundreds of friends, relations, associates and well wishers today converged at the Shehu of Borno’s Palace to witness the ceremony. Corresponded Bashir Shettima Ali file in the report and is presented by Mohammed Kabir Tahir. Ibrahim Wadaima is one of the king makers and permanent member of Borno Emirate Council. The turbanning was performed by traditional title holders led by the Shettima Kanuri, Mutawalli Shettima Bukar assisted by Mala Kambar and Kazalma. In his words of advise shortly after the turbanning, the Shehu of Borno Alhaji Abubakar Ibn Umar Garbai El-kanemi noted that though the office carries enormous responsibilities and challenges, he has no doubt that Alhaji Abba Masta Abba Yusuf is equal to the task. He charged him to treat all equally without fear or favour and affection or ill will adding he should forge close working relationship with his local government council and village heads. The Royal Father equally charged him to be in the forefront of Government programmes and show respect to constituted authorities. As one of the kingmakers the Shehu said, he should always act in dignified manner worthy of the exalted position he occupied. The new Ibrahim Wadaima later rode on horseback to pledge his loyalty to the Shehu of Borno and the Borno Emirate Council. He pledged to discharge his responsibilities in a just manner and also promised to work with all constituted authorities for the development of the society. Born in 1960 in Konduga, headquarters of Konduga Local Government Area, Alhaji Abba Masta Abba Yusuf holds a higher National Diploma from Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Bauchi. Until his turbanning, Alhaji Abba Masta Abba Yusuf was the procurement officer of the Borno State Ministry of Water Resources. Two of his friends who spoke off camera Engineer Mohammed Sanda a permanent Secretary in the state Civil Service and Alhaji Hussaini Kassim expressed confidence in the ability of alhaji Abba Masta Abba Yusuf to discharge his responsibilities. FOOTBALL: El-kanemi Warriors have continued their impressive performance in the Nigeria professional football League with another victory to maintain their third position in the league table. The team recorded a one nil victory yesterday against Kaduna United in a match played at El-kanemi Warriors Sports Centre. Before this victory, the Warriors have secured an away one-one draw with Akwa United. The match which was watched by large number of spectators ended peacefully. Governor Kashim Shettima who was at the stadium last week to watch the team’s encounter with Nembe city expressed delight with the outings of the home team and promised to pay outstanding Sign on fee of the players. LECTURE: A three day enlightenment lecture for women on Hajj matters has opened in Maiduguri. The lecture which was organized by the committee on Hajj Women Matters of the Borno State Pilgrims Welfare Board is taking place at the Al-faruq hall of El-kanemi College of Islamic Theology Maiduguri. Speaking on the occasion Sheikh Tijjani Umara who is also member of Borno State Pilgrims Welfare Board enjoined intending Pilgrims to seek for knowledge of the Hajj rites before embarking on the exercise as Allah will not reward action performed in ignorance. He advised women intending pilgrims to present their male companions as Saudi Authority would not allow them, pointing out that over one hundred women intending to perform this year’s hajj have not presented their Mahram. Also speaking a Medical Practitioner Dr. Bala Hassan advised women to go for screening and test to avoid embarrassment as pregnant women will not be allowed entrance to the Holy Land adding that women intending pilgrims should be careful with their health status card for easy screening. Dr. Bala Hassan spoke extensively on the need to ensure good hygiene and rest during the hajj rites. He also advised to them to stick to their doctor’s prescription while in the Holy Land. In an interview the Chairperson Hajj Women Matters Hajjiya Adama Shettima Ibrahim advised intending pilgrims from Borno to attend the lecture and avoid unnecessary mingling with men.
