BRTV NEWS: posted by arewa +2347031200094. 8/09/2013 Governor Kashim Shettima The State Governor Kashim Shettima has held a meeting with delegation from British Parliament to discuss security matters. Correspondent Abdulsalam Mohammed reports that the meeting took place at the Borno State Government Lodge, Abuja. In his introductory remark before the meeting went into a close door session the Secretary to the State Government Ambassador Baba Ahmed Jidda highlighted some of the achievements recorded by the administration. He said, despite the security challenges the Governor has made remarkable achievements in the areas of education, agriculture and job creation to the teeming youths in the last two years. A spokesman of the delegation Mr. Adams Orury said they were at the Borno State Lodge to discuss security issues especially the insurgency in the state. The aim he said is to passion out ways of ensuring lasting peace and commended Governor Kashim Shettima for his wonderful efforts of moving the state forward against all odds. Contributing Mr. Giles Lever told Governor Kashim Shettima that early this year, they visited Mali, Egypt, Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco and Libya to make inquiries on security problems in West Africa with a view to making recommendations to ECOWAS. The meeting later went into a close door session. Kala Balge The Caretaker Chairman of Kala Balge Alhaji Zanna Abakar Jabu has enjoined the people to ensure proper child enrolment and retention in school. The Chairman made the appeal while commissioning new primary school constructed by the council in Asaba Village. The Asaba Primary School consists of three blocks of classrooms, headmaster’s office, store and conveniences for both staff and students. It is constructed to accommodate over five hundred pupils and was strategically located at Asaba being the centre so that pupils in the other four nearby village units of Asaba A and B, Tura, Fajarra and Sidebri will also attend the school. Speaking at the commissioning ceremony the Caretaker Chairman Alhaji Zanna Abakar Jabu stressed the need for parents to sit up to their responsibility of educating their children. He said enrolment and retention of their wards in school is mandatory if they want their children to be educated and contribute to the development of the area, the state and the nation at large. According to him lack of Education has been identified as the major problem that militates against the development of any community. The school he said is not only meant for western education alone but Islamic scholars and Islamiyya teachers can also use it to impart sound Islamic knowledge and Islamic moral values to the young ones. Speaking on behalf of the people, an Islamic scholar Sheikh Anchiro Jidda and a community leader Mallam Abdullahi expressed gratitude to the chairman for meeting one of their major demands in the area. They also thanked Governor Kashim Shettima for his concern to their plights and pledged to not only ensure enrolment and retention but also good maintenance of the school. The community leaders however appealed to Governor Kashim Shettima to provide them access road to ease movement of goods and services. The Chairman also took time to inspect the Wumbi Community borehole under construction where he assured residents that the project will be completed as soon as the rainy season is over. Alhaji Zanna Abakar Jabu was also at Hijelije and Koma village units to assess the borehole, over head tank and the chain link also under construction. He attributed the problem of non completion to poor terrain which completely cuts off the area during rainy season. The local government guest House in Kala Village is another project inspected by the chairman where he pledged to tile and furnish it as soon as it is completed. International Public Accounting Standard. Borno State Government has put machinery in motion for the adoption and implementation of the International Public Accounting Standard. The State Accountant General Hajiya Mairo Bunu made this known while speaking in an interview with our correspondent Nuhu Isa. The Accountant General explained that to achieve this goal, the state Ministry of Finance has embarked on capacity building of its staff. She said without computerization of its accounting system, Borno State could not effectively adopt the global public Accounting Standard. The Accountant General expressed gratitude to Governor Kashim Shettima for his support towards staff capacity building. Hajiya Mairo Bunu also spoke on the benefits of being part of the world-wide accounting system. Already, the Ministry has recently trained at least eight hundred Accounting Officers as part of the capacity building programme. The Accountant General said accounting is a profession that requires continuous training. RELIEF The Caretaker Chairman of Guzamala Local Government, Alhaji Bukar Amsami has presented relief materials to victims of recent insurgency in Mairari village. Addressing the communities, the Caretaker Chairman said the relief materials were donated by the Speaker Borno State House of Assembly, Alhaji Abdulkarim Lawan and House of Representatives member representing Kukawa, Abadam, Guzamala and Mobbar, Alhaji Isa Lawan Kangar. He said the two lawmakers asked him to also extend their sympathy and condolences to families of those who died in the attack. The chairman told the people to take the incident as an act of God and urged them not to relent in praying for restoration of peace in the state and the country at large. Items donated to the victims by the two lawmakers consist of twenty bags of rice, two hundred bags of Maize, two hundred wrappers and two hundred plastic mats, plastic buckets and cups. Responding on behalf of the Mairari communities, the party’s chairlady Hajja Fanta thanked the Speaker Borno State House of Assembly and the National Assembly member for providing relief materials to victims of the insurgency and prayed Allah to reward them abundantly. Highpoint of the event was the symbolic presentation of the items to the village head. GRADUATION Youths have been told to seek for both western and Islamic knowledge so as to become useful members of the society. Former Borno State Grand Khadi, Suleiman Kamaludeen gave the advice today at the first graduation ceremony of Khalid Bin Walid School for Arabic and Islamic education, Bulumkuttu Abuja. Correspondent Hassan Mai Jalo has more on the story Alhaji Suleiman Kamaludeen enjoined students of the school to strive hard in seeking Islamic knowledge at their tender age which is pre-requisite to be good future leaders. The former state Khadi also advised them to face the challenges of seeking knowledge in their lives and commended the school authority for their efforts towards imparting sound knowledge to the younger ones. On his part the Chairman of the occasion Alhaji Mohammed Bello the Sardaunan Gwoza commended the teachers for their commitment and determination to achieve excellence despite the poor condition of the school. The Guest Speaker Dr. Mohammed Sani Alfulatori stressed the need for Muslims to adhere strictly to the Holy Qur’an and Hadith of the Holy Prophet Mohammed Peace and blessing of Allah be with him. In appreciation with efforts of the school authority the Guest speaker donated one hundred thousand naira and attached a Qur’anic teacher to the school. The Head Master of the school Mallam Ahmed Jidda Mahmud said the school graduated fifty students and was established in 2010 with initial twenty students adding that at present the school has over three hundred students and twenty teachers. Certificates were presented to personalities for their contribution to the school as well as graduating students. There were also drama presentation and recitation from the Holy Qur’an by one of the students.
