BRTV News COMMISSIONING The State Government is to construct a state of the art library that can stand the taste of time in the current trend of globalization. Governor Kashim Shettima disclosed this while commissioning E-library facilities provided at the State library Maiduguri. Commissioning the E-Library Governor Kashim Shettima said the state government will construct a befitting library in a conspicuous location within the state capital. He said the lost glory of the State Library will be revived for the benefit of readers and researchers and called on the Secretary of the Board to forward all their requests for government’s immediate approval. This he said is to improve the services of the board for now pending the construction of the proposed library. Earlier the Secretary of the library board, Mallam Usman Baba commended the Governor for his giant stride in the education sector and appealed to government to address the power problem and regular funding. Governor Kashim Shettima has also commissioned the modern bursary department at Ramat Polytechnic Maiduguri. Briefing the Governor on the project, the Rector of Ramat Polytechnic Dr. Umara Babagana said the edifice was constructed with the internally generated revenue at the cost of twenty four million naira only. According to the Rector the building consist of twenty offices and what remains is furnishing and appealed to government to provide the six million naira a required to fix them. The Governor was at the Kashim Ibrahim College of Education where he commissioned the ten units of two bedroom flats also constructed by the consultancy unit of Ramat Polytechnic. He was received there by the Provost of the College who thanked him for the numerous projects being executed in the institution. Rector Ramat Polytechnic Dr. Babagana Umara informed the Governor that the project was executed in just two months with the thirty four million naira provided by government. Speaking shortly after the commissioning Governor Kashim Shettima who was highly delighted with the quality and timely completion of the project commended the Rector Ramat Polytechnic and the consultancy unit for their wonderful job. It could be recalled that the project at KICOE was handed over to Ramat Polytechnic by government following the Governor’s appreciation of previous work executed by its consultancy unit. COURTESY The Sole Administrator of BRTV Alhaji Baba Kura Abba Jato has applauded women in the state for their efforts towards creating political enlightenment and awareness programmes in the state. He made the remark when members of North-East Women Political Empowerment Programme paid him a courtesy visit in his office at the Broadcasting House. Alhaji Baba Kura Abba Jato said women play vital role in achieving any development and described them as partners in progress. He said Nigerian women have aspired nationally and even globally citing example with the Finance Minister Ngozi Okonjo Iweala and Obi Ezekwesili former education minister among others. The Sole Administrator called on them to remain united and focused so as to achieve their desired objectives. While assuring them of his support at all times the BRTV Sole Administrator advised them to seek the consent of their spouses in whatever they do and take good care of the home front. He used the forum to inform them that very soon the Television station would go digital and many local languages would be introduced adding that airtime will be allocated for their programmes in Hausa and Kanuri. Earlier, the chairperson North-East Women Political Empowerment Programme, Hauwa Sale Abba told the BRTV Sole Administrator that they were in his office to intimate him of their mission and seek for his support and advice. She said they formed the organization to create platform for women to voice out their problems and participate in active politics. Contributing Ya Umarram said the organization comprises people from different backgrounds and religion with the objective of emancipating women. Also speaking Hajaratu Oliver said for many years women have been subjected to suffering and discrimination when it comes to sharing political resources and posts. BAMA: The Secretary of Bama Local Government Alhaji Zanna Muhammad Muazu has embarked on projects inspection visit within Bama Township. The secretary first port of call was the on-going renovation and reconstruction work at the Local Education Authority Bama, where he was conducted round the project by the project supervisor who said the work has reached appreciable level. He expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of work. The secretary was also at the Kasugula Primary school project where he expressed satisfaction with the level of work and commended the contractor for adhering to specification and standard as contained in the contract agreement. From there Alhaji Zanna Muazu inspected residential areas behind Bama main market who suffered from flood during every heavy down pour. He sympathizes with the flood victims and pledged to forward their problem to government for possible solution. The secretary also inspected a borehole in Abuja ward within the township. At Old Bama Primary school, the Secretary directed the contractor handling project to expedite action to complete the work on time. Addressing staff and Red Cross officials in his office, the secretary said spraying of chemicals on weeds along Maiduguri Bama road, provision of power generators to power the street lights within Bama Township, fueling and repair of boreholes to ensure steady water supply as well as payment of civilian JTF allowances will remain his major priority. He however appealed to the state government to provide the Red Cross with ambulance to enable it attend to emergency cases. BOLORI The Bolori one Youth Progressive Movement for Kashim Shettima 2015 has restated its resolve to ensure the re-election of Governor Kashim Shettima. The leader of the Movement Alhaji Baba Gaji Bulama made this known when he led other officials on a courtesy call to the State APC Women leader Hajiya Fati Kakinna at the Party’s secretariat. According to Alhaji Baba Gaji Bulama the people of Bolori one are convinced with the laudable programmes executed by the Kashim Shettima’s administration describing them as people oriented. He cited examples of the remarkable improvements in our school feeding system, construction of roads and drainage network, housing construction, provision of health facilities and transformation of the agricultural sector. He said, going by these achievements no right thinking person who has the interest of Borno at heart that will decide not to support the Governor to enable him accomplish his laudable programmes. Also speaking a member of the Movement, Hajiya Aisha Gaji Bulama said they will continue to mobilize all and sundry especially youths to give their total support to the Governor. She also commended Hajiya Kakinna for her efforts so far in canvassing support to the party and Kashim Shettima in particular adding that this informed their decision to appoint her as patron of the movement. Responding Hajiya Fati Kakinna thanked them for the visit and pledged to continue to do her best for the success of the APC. She also urged them not to hesitate to forward their complaints to her for onward presentation to the appropriate quota for solution. The Bolori One Youth Movement for Kashim Shettima 2015 also paid a similar visit on the APC State Chairman Alhaji Ali Bukar Dalori who assured them off his support at all times. ASSISTANCE Borno State Government has released six point five million naira to assist victims of last year’s police brutality at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital. The Chief Medical Director of the Hospital Professor Abdulrahman Tahir announced this while distributing the money to the beneficiaries. On the ninth of May last year, aggrieved Policemen stormed the UMTH and openly brutalized some officials of the hospital including high-ranking doctors, who sustained various degrees of injury. The crisis was quickly resolved following the prompt intervention of Governor Kashim Shettima who promised to come to the aid of the victims. According to the CMD, Professor Abdulrahman Tahir, the hospital authorities immediately constituted a committee headed by Dr. Shehu Liberty to ascertain the level of damage done to the staff. Following the recommendation contained in the report presented to the Governor he said, the sum of six point five million naira was immediately approved as financial assistance to the brutalized staff. UP SOUND He thanked Governor Kashim Shettima for his role in resolving the issue and subsequent assistance to the victims. The Chairman of the committee, Dr. Shehu Liberty said the Governor was impressed during the presentation of the report because of the moderate recommendation made by the committee. He attributed the success of the committee to the good advice it received from the CMD and commended the management of the hospital for the matured way it handled the incident. One of the beneficiaries Dr. Abba Kabir who sustained severe injury from the police brutality and still suffering from the problem got assistance to the tune of three million naira. Professor H.A Ngadda received one point five million naira while Dr. Bashir Tahir who was Acting for the CMD when the incident occurred got one million naira. Twenty nine other staff affected by the police action shared one million naira for their personal items lost during the crisis. Dr. Shehu Liberty expressed appreciation to Governor Kashim Shettima for the prompt release of the financial assistance. POLICE The Borno State Police Command has warned politicians to desist from indiscriminate hoisting and pasting of party flags and posters of candidates. A statement from the state police command headquarters signed by the public relations officer DSP Gideon Jibrin advised politicians to hoist their party flags and posters of candidates only in their party secretariats or offices and desist forthwith from defacing public buildings, roads, streets and other places outside their offices. This dimension the statement added will not augur well for our nascent democracy stressing that political parties are expected to show politics of decorum, decency and maturity. Henceforth, the statement warned hoisting of party flags everywhere in the state will no longer be tolerated and anyone found defacing the environment will be arrested and prosecuted accordingly. NAMING Internally displaced persons currently being sheltered at the NYSC Orientation this morning performed their second naming ceremony within one month. Death and delivery happens in every human society in which men and women cohabit to ensure the continuity of the human race. The baby boy this time around was named after the State Deputy Governor Alhaji Zannah Umar Mustapha. Speaking at the event one Ali Gana said being displaced persons they have nothing to offer the Governor and his Deputy except naming their new born children after them to reciprocate their good gesture. On their plight at the camp Mallam Ali said they are very grateful to Governor Kashim Shettima ,former Women Affairs Commissioner Inna Galadima, the Permanent Secretary Ladi Bappa, the State Accountant General Mairo Bunu Lawan and all those who contributed to them in one way or the other and prayed Allah to reward them accordingly. He appealed to Government to look into possibility of taking them back to their respective villages if safety and security of their villages is assured. Falmata Ali Aji Bintu Umar from Gwoza Fanta Bulama Lawan and Ya Amsa Modu Kura all commended the state government for providing food, shelter and cloths to all the seven hundred and forty five occupants of the camp from sixty six villages mainly from Konduga and Gwoza. On her part, the mother of Zanna Umar Mustafa, Bintu Usman Umar from Wala in Gwoza said she decided to name her new baby after the State Deputy Governor as her way of showing gratitude to the state government for taking good care of her after the death of her husband seven months ago in Gwoza following attack on their village. Also speaking the mother of little Kashim Shettima Aisha Abubakar Salisu from Kayamla village of Konduga local government also said they named their son after the Governor in appreciation of his concern to their plight. Others who spoke in the same vein include, Modu Bodoyi from Ajiri town, Alhaji Grema and Mallam Muhammed of Kayamla. They all expressed gratitude to the Governor and other government official particularly Hajiya Inna Galadima for her concern to their plight and appealed to Governor Kashim Shettima to allow her to supervise the IDPs camps. As part of the naming ceremony many women were seen busy doing what they know better to support the nursing mother of the deputy Governor while children were also seen playing to rejoice with the family. WORKSHOP The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) Borno State Chapter has organized workshop on capacity building for Youth Associations and Students’ bodies on peace restoration in the State. According to the Chairman NYCN comrade Yusuf Ibn Tom the workshop was supported by the Nigeria Stability and Reconciliation Programme (NSRP) and supervised by the Ministry of Poverty Alleviation and Youth Empowerment and is aimed at building the capacity of youths in the state towards inculcating the culture of peace among themselves. Comrade Yusuf said according to recent survey about seventy percent of those who lost their lives are youths and the most vulnerable in the society. Earlier in his welcome address, the chairman of the occasion Alhaji Alkali Imam, former President of NYCN said the council was formed in 1964 by Tafawa Balewa but came into being in Borno in 1988. Alhaji Alkali Imam commended NYCN and NSRP for organizing the workshop and urged them not to relent in their effort towards restoration of peace in the state. In a remark the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Poverty Alleviation and Youth Empowerment, Engineer Mohammed Chellube represented by the Director Youths Hajiya Aisha Abdulrahman also praised the organizers of the workshop saying it would not have come at a better time than now when all hands are on deck to ensure restoration of peace in the state. The Permanent Secretary advised youths to engage themselves in meaningful ventures that will better their future and avoid engaging in acts that may tarnish their image and that of the society. Presenting a paper title the role of education in inculcating the culture of peace among the Borno State Youths, the Dean Faculty of Pharmacy Professor Isa Marte Hussaini dwelt extensively on the need to educate youths on peace building stressing that because of their dynamic nature they can easily be used for positive or negative change depending on their level of education and sophistication. He called on the state government to not to relent in its effort towards training and educating the youths on various skill acquisition programmes to make them productive members of the society. Contributing Dr. Ibrahim Umara Head of Department Political Science, University of Maiduguri said Youths play important role in promoting peace in the society and called on the state government to support them at all times by providing job opportunities. Speaking in an interview, some participants thanked the organizers for recognizing the role of youths in peace building and advised youths not to allow themselves to be used as tools of destruction. FOOTBALL This year’s National Youths Sport Festival comes up in Yobe state in october. Towards this end, Kashim Shettima Strikers are making Preparations to represent the state in football event at the festival. Already, the team has lined up a number of friendly matches to select a formidable squad that will win laurels for the state. In one of the friendly matches played today the Kashim Shettima strikers defeated Yerwa Academy football club by five goals to one.
