BRUSSELS, Feb. 3 (Xinhua) -- The European Commission on Monday unveiled the European Unions first anti-corruption report, saying corruption costs the European economy around 120 billion euros (162 billion U.S. dollars) per year. Corruption continues to be a challenge that affects all EU member states, the report said, adding that EU member states have taken many initiatives in recent years, but the results are uneven and more should be done to prevent and punish corruption. Detailing the situation in each of the blocs 28 members, the report shows that corruption deserves greater attention in all the members. Corruption undermines citizens confidence in democratic institutions and the rule of law, it hurts the European economy and deprives States from much-needed tax revenue, Cecilia Malmstrom, EU Commissioner for Home Affairs, said in a statement. news.xinhuanet/english/world/2014-02/03/c_133091315.htm
