BRUTUS UPDATE: Not long after we brought this poor underweight - TopicsExpress

BRUTUS UPDATE: Not long after we brought this poor underweight boy into rescue, he went to our Vet. Upon examination he felt something in his abdomen area. They did x-rays and there they found a “mass”. Due to his lack of care, starvation, etc., we thought maybe he had just eaten garbage, rocks or who knows because he was hungry. But that was not the case, this “mass” was suspect looking. I can’t say all of us weren’t very worried that the results would not be good. They performed surgery and we were happy to hear that the “mass” was NOT cancerous! Whew! The mass seemed to be a thickening of intestines and that they sit in is body oddly. He is being treated with anti-inflammatory meds right now and we’re trying to rule out any other issues. His rear legs are still especially weak and they give out sometimes and he wobbles. But he is eating heartily, it takes time to gain weight for an emaciated dog and has to be done slowly. He will be given additional supplements for his bones and joints. We will be working with him to gain some muscle mass and strength in his rear legs. His foster mom Julie reports: “I went to garage to get something and turned around and Brutus was carrying an 8lb exercise ball in his mouth. Decided a full size basketball was better. Thinking if he was normal weight he would be HUGE!!!” We think that picking up that ball is a good sign from the sad guy that came into rescue. We are encouraged by the little things he does that seems he’s feeling better. Our goal is to get him to a healthy weight and show this sweet guy that there are good people and they do care! His vet care cost rescue a considerable sum. If you would like to help us with donating to Brutus, wed be very grateful. Donations can be made at our website.
