BSF recovers 22 kg heroin in Punjab, shoots smuggler dead Border Security Force (BSF) troopers Sunday shot dead one smuggler, arrested three more and recovered 22 kg of heroin along the India-Pakistan border in Punjabs Gurdaspur district, officials said. BSF officials said that the seizure was made in the border out-post of Boharwadala area of Gurdaspur sector. A BSF spokesman said all the three arrested smugglers are Indian nationals. One pistol, ammunition, and Pakistani SIM cards were recovered from them. The heroin seized is valued at Rs.110 crore in the international markets, the official said. On intervening night of 01/02 November, BSF troopers deployed near Border Out Post Boharwadala spotted suspicious movement of smugglers on own (Indian) side of border security fence. Immediately, BSF troopers challenged them but they did not pay any heed and continued with their aggressive posture besides firing on BSF troopers, BSF deputy inspector general R.P.S. Jaiswal said. He said the BSF troopers fired in self defence in which some of the smugglers sustained injuries while two others managed to escape taking cover of darkness. Injured smugglers were immediately evacuated to the Community Health Centre Kalanaur for treatment where Tasveer Singh succumbed to his injuries. The other smugglers were under treatment. Police authorities were informed about the absconded smugglers, he said. The BSF has seized over 305 kg of heroin this year in Punjab, which shares a 553-km-long border with Pakistan.
