BSNL mobile network disrupted entire day Avtar Bhat JAMMU, Sept 21: The BSNL mobile networking came to a stand still in the State today affecting the working in various private and Government offices and both capital cities of Jammu and Srinagar for the entire day. The consumers were put to many hardships as they could not make even the emergency calls through their BSNL mobiles for the entire day and in the event of emergency people had to rush in their private vehicles to deliver the message as after the invent of mobile system the consumers have mostly abandoned the land line system. As no official or officer was available for comment due to mobile networking failure, the exact cause of the problem could not be known till late in the night. The people trying to call their friends, relatives or business partners were left high and dry as there was no response on the phone except the network is busy. The working of the organization has also come to a severe criticism as the people said that it has been time and again proved that BSNL is not a dependable communication network and this has been proved time and again. Sources said the callousness of the organization has reached to such an extent that there is no emergency service of BSNL also available for contact when there is a total networking failure. In the hospitals also doctors faced problems in contacting their higher ups in the event of emergencies as all are linked to BSNL networking system. Admitting this, a doctor in GMC emergency said though the internal exchange of the hospital functioned normally, they faced problems in contacting the senior doctors and medical superintendent in the event of emergencies as all are linked to BSNL networking. The consumers while criticizing the functioning of BSNL said that when normal occasion the networking comes to a standstill for complete day what will happen in case of any natural calamity. They said the Telecom Ministry should take serious cognizance of the same and review the functioning of BSNL in this sensitive State. Sources said the BSNL mobile services remained disrupted in Kathua, Samba, Udhampur and other districts as well as Kashmir Valley for the entire day. The service was later restored late in the night. This office tried a lot to contact any senior officer and official for comment but due to the failure of mobile networking system could not contact them. Though a contact was made with an official at Kathua through landline late in the evening where also the BSNL mobile service was delinked for the day, he too showed his inability to tell about the exact cause of networking failure. The official said he also could not have any contact with his superiors due to mobile networking failure and hence cant tell about the cause of networking failure. He said the entire system is controlled at Jammu and the cause can also be ascertained from there. However when GM Mobile Phones Mr Mishra was contacted at 9-30 pm, he said that they are ascertaining the cause of the problem. He said as Srinagar is down entire traffic of Kashmir and traffic of Airtel and Aircel was put on Jammu which could have led to the problem in the switch and compressor. However they are ascertaining the cause of the problem and working on the same.
