BSP in Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands and Fiji will join 156 countries around the world around the world to observe the global Earth Hour event on 29th March, as part of its Go Green initiative to raise awareness on environmental issues. As such, BSP offices and branches throughout PNG, Fiji and Solomon Islands will be switching non-essential lights off from 8:30pm to 9.30pm for Earth Hour. BSPs participation marks our ongoing Go Green campaign and the fact that there is more to it than just switching off lights for one hour, once a year. BSP has over 4,000 staff who live in different communities, and as an organisation, we unite to ensure a healthy future for our world. Environmental challenges such as global warming and pollution are real and will not be resolved in a short period of time. It takes action, persistence and dedication to fight these issues and restore a healthy and thriving environment. Earth Hour is a global event created by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF). Earth Hour participation has grown significantly over the years since its start in Sydney in 2007, with participation now covering 159 countries, including PNG and Fiji. Its purpose is to unite people across the globe with a common goal, to protect the planet. Earth Hour invites individuals, cities, landmarks and businesses everywhere to turn their non-essential lights off for one hour, as a show of their commitment to reduce their impact on the environment. BSP urges everyone to join Go Green and raise your voice for action to ensure our homes, villages, schools, streets, towns and cities are clean for future generations to enjoy. We will be promoting the message of Go Green through our ATM screens, internal bulletins, press advertisements and social media. bsp.pg/Media-Centre/News--Announcements/2014/BSP-to-join-in-Earth-Hour.aspx
