BUCS Loughborough 2s hosted Nottingham 2s, in a match where spectators had to be turned away due to overcrowding in the hall of champions. the Lufbra boys got off to a slow start, with both Andrew Pagett and Dom Cutter losing their opening matches in 5, after being 2-1 down. Pagett was unlucky throughout the day, and moments of sheer genius led to a false image of his abilities, and lost his next three matches all in 4. rumours have it he had a beer last night, so its no surprise the ginger ninja did not perform as was required. It was voiced by resident exhibitionist James Trafford that more was expected of the Club Chair. Trafford himself found the going tough, and with his first two games against Nottingham 1 and 2 struggled to find his oversized feet, and lost in 3. Traff, with his defending prowess on full display to the astonishment of the audience (gasps were audible. Not just from the crowd) as he made retrieving look easy, only to lose the pivotal points when it mattered. Trafford, it was agreed, did play some of the best table tennis to date, and it was just unlucky that the 50/50 points went the other way. Michael Mullarkey also played some of the best table tennis of his season, and, similarly to Trafford, found the 50/50 points going Nottinghams way. With 3 of his matches going to 4, it took a few moments for Mullarkey to get into the flow of his game, but when he did, some of the back hands were unreal. Seriously. Should have seen them. One lady in the crowd feinted, to which Mullarkey was rumoured to have been overheard saying Shes only human. Cutter was the saving grace for the team today, with two wins from four, his inspirational performances should have been good enough for the rest of the team to follow. But it wasnt. After a shaky start, Cutter comfortably beat Nottingham number 3, and then went on to beat Nottingham 1 in 4, with some outstanding angled play from both players, and one incredible show of not giving up on a point. The doubles was intense, as all four players were keen to show their stuff, names were put into a hat for the Nottingham pairing to choose. Fate decided upon team dont let near your kids of Pagett and Trafford who, somehow, most probably with a lot of luck, jam and Traffs doubles expertise, won in 4. the crowd were as shocked as the Nottingham pair were. Mullarkey quickly disposed of the steroids that were taken before the doubles game. Upon reflection on the match, Man of the Match was awarded to Michael Mullarkey. I mean, why not?! Traff had these words to say; Although brilliant in his matches, it is only right that Cutters captaincy was to blame for the defeat Loughborough 3-14 Nottingham
