BUDAPEST: We fly from Paris to Budapest, capitol of Hungary, a two-hour flight, and book into the Intercontinental Hotel on the eastern or Pest bank of the Danube. The hotel is also situated on the edge of the city’s large and popular tourist area with its numerous pedestrian avenues, shops and restaurants. Again we go for a stroll to take in the many sights and sounds. We end up in the massive indoor market at the edge of the tourist area and eat langos, a traditional dish that’s impossible to eat gracefully! I have some local wine with it (nothing to write home about!). We discover some more of the city and then go back to the hotel, meet up with our tour group and have supper at a nearby restaurant (try another wine ... still not impressed: we can teach them a thing or three about wine-making!). Next day we (the whole tour group) go on a bus tour of Budapest’s highlights, including the western bank, or Buda. Here I pose in front of a spy museum and I convince Sharon to pose at the door to the Museum of Broken Relationships (I kid you not!). In the evening we go on a cruise of the Danube (which includes a dinner) and afterwards Sharon and I walk across the bridge close to our hotel and I take a picture of her with our hotel and other buildings in the background. The following morning we go on an excursion to Szentendre, a little village nearby where I end up buying Hungarian wine, white and red. That evening the two of us slip away (again!) and have a light Hungarian meal at one of the many sidewalk cafes in the tourist area (this time the wine, red, is much better, but still not in SA’s league!).
