BUHARI/OSINBAJO; LETS ADD 41 MILLION IN 16 DAYS! Nice piece from Auwal Sani Anwar, advising us to be campaign Directors for Change; As I write this piece, in the middle of the night, I can bet my last kobo that neither General Muhammadu Buhari (GMB) nor Prof. Yemi Osinbajo is asleep. Do you know what is keeping them awake? Do you know what is denying them their God-given right to be with their respective, lovely families? Do you know why they are not reclining on their sofas enjoying the soap opera on television? Do you know why they are not enjoying the giggles of those funny toddlers that call them ‘grandpa’? Well, I am sure you do, but I will still remind you. GMB and Osinbajo are right now walking, talking, driving miles upon miles, climbing drums, shouting on top of their voices and calling your attention to the solutions that will rescue and reinvent your challenged existence. They are offering themselves to work for you so that you will become secure, educated, healthy and prosperous again. They are busy with the important job of working for the opportunity to save you from becoming a footnote of history in the annals of human sojourn on Earth. But the question is, what are you doing to help them in this sacrifice that they are making for you? Well, you may say that my statements above are incomplete, because in actual fact, these remarkable Nigerians are not working for only you. They and their families also need a functional nation to live and blossom in. And you would be right. Indeed to the best of my knowledge, neither GMB nor Osinbajo has built or bought a house outside the shores of our beloved motherland. Although they both have enough social and moral capital to earn them gifts of homes outside Nigeria, none of them ever thought of leaving us behind. They are here with us to share our fate, for better, for worse. And for this reason, the least they deserve is our faithfulness in the social contract they are struggling so hard to sign for our benefit. Yet again I will ask, what are you doing to help them? I know that many of us have contributed our widow’s might to their campaign account. That is admirable and kind. But is that enough? Many of us spend our time and resources to stay online and say great things about this great team. We are also online checkmating all the unkind attacks that are emanating from the opposition. From ‘Islamization’, it failed, to ‘Old age’, it failed, to ‘Corruption’, it failed, to ‘Certificate’, it failed, to ‘Angel of Death’, it failed and now to ‘Postponement’, which will fail. Many have printed t-shirts, posters and campaign materials which get delivered to the campaign offices and get distributed. I must say all these are important and indeed necessary, ladies and gentlemen; but the question is, are they enough? And the answer is, they are not. They are not because the ruling party’s war chest may probably be the Central Bank of Nigeria. Remember that invitations sent to a select few bourgeoisies in Nigeria yielded over N20B just for starters. Remember that the ruling party is actually running the system that constitutes our lives, from the moment we wake up to the time we sleep and beyond. They are in charge of the security of your lives and property. They decide if PHCN will give you electric power or hold it. They decide whether water runs in your taps or not. Is there fertilizer for your farm or not? It is upto them to tar the road to your village or not. It is at their discretion whether you get paid salary or not. In fact, they decide whether you get your permanent voters card or not – the ‘I’ in INEC may mean ‘independent’ but INEC doesn not mint its own money and its leader is an appointee of the ruling party. Jega may be a man of integrity but how can you even begin to think that you have done enough? There is only one way to go about it. And it is very simply. Please listen carefully and think. I want you to think before you do the act. And when you do the act, do it wisely, honestly and jovially. You are going to be the most important person as far as you are concerned to this noble quest. And you are going to discharge your responsibility excellently. What is that one thing that you are going to do? It is to appoint yourself as the Director of the Buhari/Osinbajo Election Campaign. And now you ask yourself, is Auwal crazy? Doesn’t he know that Chief Rotimi Amechi is the Director-General of the Campaign? You doubt if Buhari and Osinbajo even know your name? And may be they do not. But you do. You know your name. You know their names. You know what they stand for. You know what they mean for your future and that of your children. And you cannot even risk imagining the consequences of allowing Nigeria to continue to drift the way it does today. You suddenly realize that these facts are what make you a stakeholder in this campaign. They are what make you responsible for what happens to you and your family after the elections. They are what make you the Director of the Buhari/Osinbajo campaign team. This means that from today, from this moment onwards, you will be campaigning for this team within your sphere of influence, EVERYDAY, until you cast your vote on February 14 and 28, 2015. Your simple job as a Director is to locate and convince at least one undecided voter everyday from within your family, neighbours, colleagues or business partners, to vote Buhari and Osinbajo in the forthcoming elections. Campaigning for them is not a difficult thing to do. Nigerians already know how much trouble we are in, how bleak the future is. They see it with their eyes, feel it in their stomachs and suffer it as the approach graves. Give them the good news of Buhari/Osinbajo and what they stand for. Do not abuse or malign the President or the ruling party. Just point to the obvious. From loss of lives and loss of territory to loss of value and sense of self worth. Nobody is proud of where we are today. Point that out and appeal to their conscience. Energize their survival instincts. It will be very clear to them even before you try. So soon as they are on board, they will become Directors too. By Febuhari 14, you would have convinced 21 Nigerians to do the right thing. The ripple effect will mean 420 in 20 days, 8380 in 19 days, 150, 840 in 18 days and 2,564,280 in 17 days, 41,028,480 in 16 days and on and on, all from your singular decision to be Buhari/Osinbajo’s Director in your sphere of influence. Now this way is the way to go. It is the way we must go – singular, individual commitment to discharge this responsibility. It is the sheer number of votes, yours, mine and others, that will make it impossible for the ruling party to deny the people their wishes. Your job on election day is to vote, to wait for the votes to be counted, to accompany your votes to the collection point and to wait for the results to be announced. When you do these, when you and your Directors do these, then you have earned the sacrifices that the People’s General and the People’s Professor are making to provide us with a better country and a better life. Thank you Director as you get to work immediately. Now let’s go get ‘em! And God bless.
