BUILD TRUST - from the Book "Intentional Possibilities" by Sergio Sedas, out this fall. “I stand behind you because I trust you to lead the way.” I lead the way because I know you will always have my back” - Anonymous Trust is a two way street. People trust you to lead the way. And you trust them to be there beside you. It is present in every relationship that works. Marriage. Work. Friendship. It takes time to build up and can be strong enough to endure the most intense adversity. And at the same time it is so fragile that it can be crumbled with a single lie. Build trust and people will follow. They will do what needs to get done. They will put the energy and the effort. They will fight for you. And in the times of trouble they will be there for you ready to help you in every way. And if at any time you fail. They will forgive and be there with you to help you rise again. But how do you build up such strong relationship? Trust is built on integrity, clear communication, accountability, and a desire to help each other. You build trust by being straight. By speaking the truth, being upfront and being consistent. This means communicating everything including the good, the bad and the ugly. You hold nothing back and you maintain a clear and open agenda. You let people know what you want and what you are hoping to accomplish. And you become transparent. Be accountable. Keep every promise you make – no matter what. And spread accountability around your team and organization. Make sure that you do not over commit by taking on those commitments you know that you are willing and able to do. When you take a commitment do whatever it takes to meet it. And if for any reason, you identify you may not communicate early so that together you can come up with an alternative solution. And, teach others in your team to do the same. Communicate.
