BULLDOG BOWL CLIP OF THE DAY (1985 Sun Bowl) Theyre not necessarily Georgias greatest bowl results, or best bowl plays, but rather significant/notable Bulldog bowl moments in history, and Ill be posting them leading up to Georgias Belk Bowl appearance... Back when a college football game could actually end in a tie, often, one of the teams playing to a draw felt more so like winners at games end, while the other team, losers. Such was the case in the 85 Sun Bowl. Trailing by 10 points in the fourth quarter to Arizona, Georgia rallied to tie the game, 13-13. However, the Wildcats drove the field in the final minute, setting up a 39-yard game-winning field-goal attempt by their honorable-mention All-American placekicker, Max Zendejas. Zendejas had already made a 52-yard field goal against the Bulldogs, and was not too far removed from nailing a game-winning 57-yarder against Arizona St. in the regular-season finale. Arizonas senior placekicker was indeed automatic, hardly missing, especially from less than 40 yards out. Whats more, Zendejas had already been named the Sun Bowls MVP. However, 10 seconds still remained on the clock--enough time that an assumed defeat for the Bulldogs could actually result in one of those winning ties.
