BUS 466 Week One Report: How to make your class cry or...proof that someone out there has a sense of humor. I didnt get a chance to see the roster beforehand so imagine my surprise when I realize that everyone in the class, including the Mentor Teacher is a...female! Yes thats right it is Jim, and a classroom full of mostly thirty and forty something ladies. No problem, Ive got this covered! Early on in class we are discussing barriers to women in leadership. This leads to a discussion on the differences between men and women as leaders and of course the class wants to know what I think and if I had an opinion...hint: I had an opinion. Then, as the class was winding down, each student had to share their own personal timeline emphasizing events and experiences that shaped their leadership skills. As one student was sharing about the birth of her daughter she began to cry. As she struggled to gain her composure, I looked around the room and noticed that the other students and the mentor teacher were all tearing-up. Then the following conversation occurred. Jim: Youre not all going to cry on me, are you? Class in unison: YES! And the tears flowed...thus illustrating the difference between men and women in leadership!
