BUSINESS NEWS UPDATE AT 4 OCLOCK WITH Orange Uganda Orange Telecom Uganda has launched five new applications softwares (Apps) which were developed by winning students of the recently concluded 2013 Orange Community Innovations Awards. Vincent Poujol, the CEO, Orange Uganda said that the company’s support to the students in development of the applications is a sign of its commitment to foster development in Uganda by improving access to relevant information and communication technology within communities. The applications were developed by the students from both private and public universities focusing on the Education, agriculture and health sectors with a view of helping mobile users to utilize mobile devices beyond making calls and texting. The applications launched were Agro Market Day, MensPreg, LundaLite, NoisyGates and First Aid. Uganda is to host international and local business leaders keen to support youth development to a dinner on the 28th of November 2014 at Sheraton Hotel in Kampala. Addressing press Japheth Katto the chairman board of trustees of the Duke of Edinburgh international says on the same event they will award youth with the Duke of Edinburg’s international award that aims at empowering youth with soft skills including physical reaction, vocational skill development, community service skills and adventurous journeys. He adds that the self development award program that targets youth aged 14 to 25 aims at improving communities around the world through supporting young people mature into responsible active citizens who will positively contribute towards societies. MTN Uganda has emerged as the leading network operator for the period of February 2014- June 2014. This after an independent Quality of Service assessment that was carried out by the Uganda COmmunciations Commission. The report covered a number of parameters which include among others Successful Call rate, Blocked call rate and Dropped call rate. In a bid to fight counterfeit agricultural inputs on the market, anti graft campaigners and agricultural experts embark on a campaign that will see dealers in fake farm inputs apprehended. The Programs coordinator Transparency International Francis Ekaddu says farmers lose colossal sums of money to unscrupulous individuals adding that fake farm inputs put the lives of Ugandans at risk.
