BUTTERFLY As a child I was a caterpillar, Short and plump - TopicsExpress

BUTTERFLY As a child I was a caterpillar, Short and plump crawling down there on the floor; Bullies constantly teasing me about my weight, but that just caused me to eat more and more Predators circling overhead, I wish I was smaller so I could sneak into the shadows and disappear; Each night my pale green skin shone in the moonlight, as down my cheek rolled another lonely tear So much pain mixed with so many doubts, At times I felt like I was living just to die; But my elders told me to be strong, as one day I would fly I feel broken inside, but I hear Mother Nature whispering like the wind through my brain; I try to take shelter under a leaf, as a light drizzle turns into full blown rain I wrap myself up in the leaf as my heartbeat begins to soften, I have finally found the perfect place to hide; I encase myself in a cocoon, Sealed together with all of the tears that I cried I feel like I am ready to sleep, And for the first time I was able to dream; The outside world is locked away, as the last sound disappears down a distant stream As I sleep inside my hardened shell I dream about transforming and creating a brand new me; I feel the strength seep up from the roots, and then down the branch of this tree It was like one of those dreams you have when you wish you never had to wake; Until one morning my cocoon started to tremble and shake Just then the bright morning sunshine illuminates all that was black; My make shift home starts to crumble away, as huge bright wings come piercing through my back I sit on my branch and spread my wings, my elders were right I was always born to fly; We all have a destiny in life to fulfill, And mine was always to become a butterfly.
