BWV 57 --- Today, June 8, 2013 Johann Sebastian Bach in 1685 ~ 1750 - Cantata Selig ist der Mann (Blessed is the man) The sung dialogue Selig ist der Mann was composed in Leipzig in 1725 and was performed for the first time on 26 December of the same year during the second day of Christmas. It is possible that the cantata was subsequently repeated on an unknown date because the autograph score shows that Bach added some parts for brass. The libretto is adapted from James, chapter 1 verse 12, for the first movement, texts by Ahasverus Fritsch for the eighth and Georg Christian Lehms for the remaining.
