BY DICK BRAZIL. SAD to record the passing of one of the nations best ever politicans,West Cork based, Joe Walsh, report Cork Daily Post on Facebook. Joe, a friend for decades, he was one of best political servants of any constituency ever in the Republic. He came into politics, as I did in writing, in the seventies and, as Agriculture Minister was innovative in the development of the sector in our early days in the EU. Joe was a true man of the people, surrounded by a wonderful support team that also saw great development of the bloodstock and, greyhound sector. He was always special to meet and, not even seeking political gain, would have great ideas for you to generate a story. I know for instance how he loved to talk of the success of his West Cork community, never forgetting in our craic meetings, discussing his long time supporter, now retired judge, Michael Pattwell, another West Cork success story. Joe stayed active in business on retiring from politics, in areas of horse racing sector, the greyhound business and, in banking directorship. Today is a sad day in West Cork, no matter what your politics. You have lost a very, very, special person indeed, a man who was at the end of a telephone line anytime you needed his help or advice, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Personally, I can only say thank you for what you did for South west, for Ireland and, irony we now record your passing, on a day in which current crisis in agriculture raises its public head. Than you, Joe.Our thoughts and, prayers are with you and, family.
