BY SIMON EBEGBULEM BENIN CITY----THE Esan Youth Movement, an umbrella body of all Esan youths from the Edo Central senatorial district of Edo state, yesterday lamented alleged failure by Esan leaders, to call a summit of all Esan leaders with a view to come up with a position paper on the proposed National Conference. The group regretted that despite the fact that they have a former governor, in the person of Prof. Osarieme Osunbor , Chief Tom ikhimi,, a member of the PDP Board of Trustees, Chief Tony Anenih, Senator Odion Ugbesia, unlike other ethnic nationalities, Esan people are yet to come up with a position paper on the proposed conference. A member of the EYM Board of Trustees, Chief Francis Inegbeneki lamented this yesterday to Vanguard. According to him, “it is sad that politics has divided our people so negatively that they have forgotten that we are all brothers and sisters despite your political affiliation. Nigerians know the calibre of men Esan have produced but yet as I am talking to you none of these leaders have called our people to come together to say what are those problems confronting Esan people so that we can put them together and discuss at the conference. “Every day we see other ethnic groups meeting and submitting their position papers but nothing from Esan people. We are aware that a group known as Esan Professionals submitted a paper but as you know that cannot be the position of Esan people, that body is a professional body as it is called and not an umbrella body of Esan people. The situation is shameful because it now looks as if Esan people don’t have leaders which is not true. “The fact that Chief Anenih is no longer politically strong at home does not mean we cannot move forward. So I want to appeal to our brothers, including Prof.Osunbor whom for me is supposed to spear heard this move, to act quickly because time is no longer on our side” he stated. Narrating further, Chief inegbeniki said that the failure of Esan leaders to come together is about to cost Esan the governorship of Edo state. In the spirit of fair play, justice and equity, it is the turn of Esan to produce the next Governor of Edo state. Chief inegbeniki appeal to all Esan sons and daughters to come together irrespective of our political affiliation. We have done it before, we can still do it again. Chief inegbeniki who is the Uzoya of Esan land also appeal to the traditional rulers to intervene in this matter as a matter of urgency.
