BY THE CROSS! (Col.2:14) In our discussions so far, we have examined how the law was unable to save and the weakness of man to keep the law. The last edition Christ is the end was concluded with how the cross put an end to the law and its demands. So today, we will look further into what Christ had accomplished for us by His death on the cross. In the above text we will consider some crucial points for a better understanding. BLOTTING OUT.... -What does this mean? it mean to wipe out, to cancel, to cover completely, to erase and remove it forever out of the way. Jesus did not only took our sins on the cross (1Pet.2:24). but by the cross likewise, the law was blotted out. The effect of Christ death on the cross upon the law was to cancel and remove forever all the handwritting of every decrees, ordinaces and regulations. From the original translation, the meaning of ordinance is dogma which mean a law, decree and beliefs. Every law and various decrees written with hands on stones, scroll was by the death of Christ on Calvary took away once and for all, never to be reckon with again. -Why were these ordinances taken away? that is what we will see in this next point ...WHICH ARE CONTRARY TO US... The reason Christ took away these laws and decrees was because they were all contrary to us. they were against us. we are charged guilty by them, because it is impossible for us in the flesh to meet its holy demands. we are always without excuse before God by the the law. (see the previous series-IT IS IMPOSSIBLE 5,6). ...AND TOOK IT OUT OF THE WAY... The cross by which Jesus died took it all out of our way by nailing it to the it. Jesus Christ cancelled the huge debt that was against us because of inadequaces to keep the law. He torn the certificate of the debt to the law by His death. The law and ordinances were summed up in Jesus by He fulfilling them and all righteousness with it (Matt.5.17,3:15). He took the body of the law to the cross to be nailed to it, which equally typified the death of the law, its condemnation and curses. He took it with Him to the cross so that we will no longer be under the demands of it dominion. we are therefore delievered from the law (Rom.7:6). we are not under the law, but under Grace which Christ death brought to us (Rom.6:14). This does not mean we should live anyhow we like. But the implication now is that Grace has become our teacher who teaches us to live and fulfill the righteous requirements of the law as we walk in the power of the HolySpirit. (Titus.2:11,12; Rom.8:4). Our relationship with Jesus Christ now empower us to obey God out of love, not out of fear and condemnation of the slavery of the law. -Shalom!
