BYCs new cat and dog adoption center is at 6041 West Road, McKean. This is immediately off I-79 at the McKean exit, just 3 miles south of I-90. The cat center has been open for 4 months and the dog center is still under construction. We hope it will be open in about a month. Shelter life can be stressful for cats and dogs so BYC does everything it can to make life at the adoption center fun for the residents. The cats have a house to live in cage-free just like they would in homes of their own. Potential adopters can sit on a sofa in the sunroom and meet the cats. Volunteers come daily to play with them. The dog center will have 11 bedrooms for dogs and each bedroom will have its own outdoor patio. Each patio will open to one of several large play yards where the dogs can romp and play with other dogs. There will also be a large indoor room for the dogs to play in when the weather is bad. This will also be a meet-and-greet room for families that want to introduce a current pet to a potential new canine family member. Volunteers will play with the resident dogs daily and walk the dogs on-leash in a park-like setting on the back acre to teach them good leash manners. Our goal with this setting is to reduce the stress level for our cats and dogs to make life fun while awaiting a permanent home. We are currently waiting for fencing for the dog center which will cost around $20,000. Your donation to Because You Care during todays Erie Gives campaign will help us complete the adoption center and begin saving more dogs that will be available for adoption. Please click on eriegives.org/nonprofit-search/?organization_id=175 and donate before 8 p.m. today and your donation will be partially matched by the Erie Community Foundation. Please share this post so others will learn about BYC and also donate. Thank you.
