BYRNE’S BOYS WERE BRILLIANT Sunday morning saw the Arklow Town FC U-9 Black team travel to Woodlands for a midday kick off against Greystones United FC. The lads have really been working very hard and after some great team performances over St Anthony’s and Wicklow Rovers the lads continued where they had left off. Playing on a pitch that was just far too big for 7-a-side U-9 football we found it very difficult to adapt to the gap between our defenders and forwards, Our Midfield players were working really hard to cover the ground going forward and back. FENN WOLOHAN, RYAN SCANLON and ADAM REID worked tirelessly in the opening ten minutes and we were rewarded when great play from SEAN O’NEILL found SHAUN HUGHES (Captain) who controlled the ball and slotted in ADAM REID to score a great goal. We continued to press and another great break from AARON GERAGHTY was broken up by Greystones only for RYAN SCANLON to intercept the clearance and smash home a great effort for No 2. We were controlling the game and Greystones were trying to pull a goal back but SEAN DUNNE, JACK McCARTHY and ALEX CULLEN in defence, along with PAUL MOORE in goal, kept the home side at bay. Half time and 2-0 up the emphasis in the second period was to squeeze Greystones back into their half and try to reduce the ground our midfield players were covering. SEAN BYRNE played possibly his best game in a Town jersey, JOHN ERASMUS had a great game and his passing and movement was brilliant. Our third goal came when FENN WOLOHAN went on a run beating the Greystones defence and his brilliant lob caught the Stones keeper off his line for a great piece of individual skill. 3-0 the final score but the football on display today was brilliant. Well done boys. Report and photographs with thanks to Joe Byrne.
