Ba Na Hills, often called by the natives as the breath of the country, because it sits right in the center of Vietnam; On a clear day, you can see deep into the horizon decorated by sea, mountain, and cityscapes. We rented 2 mopeds from Hoi An and made the gruesome 2 hours trek towards Ba Na Hills. My under powered moped topped out at 60kmph or 37mph, making it very difficult to pass bigger vehicles. Often, I was riding along side of semi trucks that were blowing smoke and dust into my face and with no way of passing them. The right shoulder of the road was filled with road debris, Id have to be nuts to want to pass a semi truck in that condition. All motorists use their horn as communication to surrounding drivers. With that said, semi trucks use their air-horns very deliberately; imagine the only thing separating you from a full blown air-horn and your ear drums is 3 ft of space. We arrived at Ba Na Hills and parked our mopeds. The sky ride costed $30 per person; expensive, but since were already there we decided to do it. The admission cost became negligible when we were greeted by the amazing Da Nang sky line. Unfortunately, the higher we went, the more obscured the view became. After 25 minutes of ear popping and ooohs and ahhhs, we had reached the Ba Na Hills Resort. Fog had covered the resort so thick that we could not see much of anything. The only thing to do at that point was to try out the restaurants. The food was expensive but notably good. We arrived at the base of the hill by sky-ride around 6pm; at which point the sun had already set. We did not only have road debris and semi trucks to worry about, we now have darkness working against us. We got lost multiple times, but were able to make it back to the hotel safely. My Gopro malfunctioned the day before, otherwise I would have awesome traffic footage to show. Unless riding the moped is your thing, I would recommend hopping on a tour bus to visit Ba Na Hills instead.
