Baba Bulleh Shah July 9, 2012 By Pak Native 8 Comments Image of Bulleh Shah, Photo of Bulleh Shah, Bulleh Shah pic Baba Bulleh Shah is one of the greatest sufi poets of Punjab. He was also a philosopher and humanist. Bulle Shah’s actual name is Abdullah Shah. Bulle Shah was born in 1680, in a small village Uch, Bahawalpur. His ancestors had migrated from Uzbekistan. His father got a job in Pandoke, about 50 miles southeast of Kasur. Bulleh Shah received his early schooling in Pandoke and moved to Kasur for higher education. Bulleh Shah’s poetry is called the Kafi, a style of Punjabi, Sindhi and Saraiki poetry used by the Sufis of Sindh and Punjab and even Sikh gurus. Bulleh Shah’s poetry and philosophy firmly criticizes the Islamic religious orthodoxy of his day. Bulleh Shah basically revolted against religious no-go areas of Muslim Mullah and pleaded to reach to Allah through love of humanity and tameness of inner self. He died in 1757.
