Babby Update: The Babbining The hospital has graciously let us stay in our room, though technically weve been discharged 6 hours ago. We do have to clear out of here by midnight, but at least we get another free hospital meal or two out of it. I have also found their hidden stash of tiny cans of ginger ale so Im sure Im already the secret bane of some poor orderlys existence. The kid has taken to breastfeeding well and essentially catapults himself into a self-induced food coma immediately following feeding time. Blood sugar monitoring continues and the soonest they would feel comfortable letting him leave would be tomorrow morning around 6am, so were going home tonight to sleep/weep in our own beds for a change. Henceforth known as Sweeping. Weve (by which I mean Elisa) has stockpiled an impressive 200+ CCs of milk to keep the kid fat and happy in our absence. We have one more feeding/pump session in us before well pack our things as drive back to Astoria. My hunt for a cheapo temporary breast pump has come up empty, so Im hoping the Walgreens by our house has something. Id hate so plop down $70 for a crappy version of something our insurance is giving us for free in a week anyhow. Any hints/tips would be welcome. Shes sleeping, and when she has that baby in her arms, shes the happiest Ive seen her since our wedding day. The wedding night was full of bitter tears, but thats another story. I fear for tears when she must sleep at home sans baby, much as I fought not to do the last few nights without either of them, though the entire bed to myself was consolation enough. (I ate fistfulls of dry cereal in bed so dont tell her). I feel good about tomorrows chances for release, though cautious optimism again is the crutch I lean on. Thanks again for all your love & support.
