Babushka Dolls: Do you want to see the real She, Look Inside. Shes more than a body...She is responsible to protect Him, by Tzniut. I Love Children. I love to play with children, especially on Shabbat, my favorite day. Last Shabbat which I spent home, in the family of Rabbi Uzi and Rabbanit Bruria Binenfeld, ligting the candles with the Babushka (Matryoska) Dolls, just above my head, it was a strange experience. Despite the fact that Im not a fan of these wooden dolls, bcause of some not so pleasant childhood memories, seeing the kids fascinated of playing with the Russian dools, I choose to enter in the game; and surprisingly I found that there is more than meets the eye...If you want to see the real me, youll have to look inside...We see things as they appear on the surface, yet if we look more deeply, things are more than what they seem. For your servant took responsabilty for the youth (Parashat Vayigash) = All Jews are responsible for one another = All the Women are responsible (within limits) to protect Men by Tzniut. Nothing is more beloved to HaShem than tzniut. Tzniut (modesty) is more than what we wear, its who we are. Your body is a beautiful gift from HaShem but you are so much more. When you cover the external, you can transmit the inner beauty, and not only to dress, but also to actions, speech and thought. Tzniut is a light in the darkness. In the parashat VaYeshev, the wife of the Egyptian officer Potiphar knew that to seduce Joseph, he would first have to dress - and therefore feel - like an immoral Egyptian. But Joseph, too, understood the power of clothing, and resisted her by retaining his Hebrew garb. When my daughter asked me mom, why you dress so dosit, youre covered from head to toe. I answer simply: Tzniut=Covering, Vulgarity=Uncovering. If nothing is secret, nothing is sacred. The Precious something is the more you protect, you cover up. When you allow only a few people to find out what makes you unique - and one very special person to unearth it more fully - each will feel a greater appreciation for and connection with the you he or she gradually discovers. Lets face it: when you put on clothes, you put on a self-image. Whats most important, however, is not whether you dress rich or poor, earthy or business. What counts is whether you dress body or person. Any man without a wife lives without a protective wall - The Talmud. Men have problems focusing on spiritual matters when around less than modesty clad women. Given the impracticality of asking them to don blinders, the women must be responsible for keeping mens heads in the right place, by tzniut and covering themself. HaShem wants us to perceive each other in depth. Tzniut is a philosophy of life. Tzinut comes from the same root at tzina, privacy for it means knowing what to keep private and what to show, and when and how, so you can project and cultivate an internal self image. All the glory of the kings daughter is within. (Tehilim) A womans spiritual expression is meant to be internal and private. Since all shepherdes are abhorent to Egyptians( Parashat Vayigash) Joseph gave his brothers advice that would serve the Jewish people well throught their experience in the exile.: Dont try to find favour in the eyes of your non Jewish hosts. Dont seek to imitate their lifestyle or to be involved in their culture. The secret of Jewish survival in the exile is to remain Outsiders. Am Israel was created to be a light unto the nations - and when we fail in our mission, all the world suffers. HaShem has told you, humanity, what is good; and what does God require of you but to do justly, love kindness, and walk in tzniut with your God. Tzniut colors everything we do. It is a way of life. And its aquired not overnight but over time, tzniut is not black and white, its a continuum, every step counts. The points is that we are different of all other nations and must never forget it. If a Jew doesnt make Kiddush (to sanctify himself by maintaining a distinctly Jewish lifestyle), then the non jew will make Havdalah for him (by making the Jew realize he is truly different).
