Baby Cyrus is doing very well. He is on a high flow nasal cannula. He eats lots of breast milk fortified with a human milk fortifier and should start to put on some weight as they ramp up his feedings. He loves to have his head rubbed and is already strong enough to push his head up when hes on his belly. Baby Layla had an exhausting day. They tried to take her off the ventilator and she was not ready for it. She is eating breast milk with human milk fortifier and just had her IV for supplemental fluids/tpn removed. She had a rough recovery two weeks ago from a heart murmur that was affecting her kidneys. The murmur is still present but doesnt seem to be causing any major problems. Baby Kaiya is not doing so well. Yesterday she had to be resuscitated four times. After the last time they started her on a constant drip of epinephrine to keep her heart going. The ventilator is turned up very high. Her kidneys are still in rough shape and she is retaining a ton of fluid. She finally did have a huge pee right before we left this afternoon so there is hope that her kidneys can start working again. We just need her heart and lungs to hold on until they do. Additionally, she initially had grade two brain bleeds on either side if her head but after a downward turn this week they rescanned her head and she now has grade 3-4 bleeds on both sides of her head. Our nurses and doctors are dedicated and amazing. Last night was a rough night in the NICU. We appreciate all they do, they are so strong. We were sitting with the babies in the NICU in the early morning hours when another baby passed away. Watching the parents, grandparents and nurses go through the emotions of that loss was so profound. Thank you for all of your support!
