Baby Jack update: Halston got up early and went on his annual - TopicsExpress

Baby Jack update: Halston got up early and went on his annual Christmas shopping adventure in the big city, but refused to let me come along. I would have put up a bigger fight, but if I tag along, how can he buy me presents? Haha! Meanwhile, Jack and I spent the day with Pops and Nonnie. Jack was delighted when they came to pick us up. We went together to the benefit that was held for my cousins husband, Terry Perry. Please keep him in your prayers; God is already working in their situation as he battles cancer. After the benefit, we ate lunch. Jack had his own plate of french fries and when I kindly tried to help him finish, I found that each one had a bite already taken from it. So silly! Then we did a little shopping and Jack was thrilled when Pops bought him a blue balloon. He held that balloon so tightly all the way to the car and fell asleep with it still in his hand. It was an absolutely wonderful day that we got to spend with my family. I even got to go on an adventure with just my dad and me. I love it when we get to do that. I also loved seeing all my family and the people who had come to support Terrys family in their time of need at the benefit today. It reminded me so much of the benefit that was held in Jacks honor not too long ago. Our situation was different of course, but when Jack was born a micropreemie, we were also suddenly thrown out of our comfort zone, facing a scary road ahead, and completely dependent upon The Lord to see us through. And it is amazing how God did exactly that- He saw us through. Along the way, He provided for our every need. His provision was so humbling, because He used friends, family, and even perfect strangers to meet our needs. Not only did we learn about faith and Gods almighty power; we learned how to be humble... how to accept kindness and charity from others, even though we started off wanting to be independent. It really drains you of all your pride when you receive a gift from someone who has so much less than you. Being humble is knowing that we cannot do anything on our own. It is recognizing that we need The Lord. It is receiving His blessings with a grateful heart, no matter how He chooses to present them. Of course we are to work hard, do our best, and help others when we can; but never forget Who has prepared our pathway and bestowed our resources. And sometimes, He will remind us how much we desperately need Him. It is unnatural for mankind to leave behind their pride, but it is actually a relief to be humble. Just rest and rely on God, watch as He meets your need, and glorify His Name when He does. Humble yourselves in the sight of The Lord, and He shall lift you up. (James 4:10) I thank The Lord for His lessons in humility, which always end with a blessing. Thank you for praying to keep Jack healthy and safe.
