Baby elephants can be easily controlled with a leash that is attached to a stake in the ground. They can only go as far as the leash will allow them. Years later when the elephant is fully grown, it could very easily rip the stake out of the ground and go off on its own. Interestingly, the elephant willfully remains tethered to the leash, because he has been conditioned to believe he isnt strong enough.
